Autocon has withdrawn from the Wheels Down Sebring test in January as a direct result of the ACO/ALMS rules change governing new rear wing specifications. The new rules resulted in the need for a completely new wing to be manufactured by Lola and that wing will not be available until February. "We had every intention to participate in the Wheels Down test," stated Autocon owner Michael Lewis. "Sebring is such an important event to Autocon but for us to test without the new wing would not be at all productive. It is not possible to obtain our new wing before the Sebring test so we will wait for a bit." Autocon will now test at Road Atlanta in the days leading up to the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, fully equipped with the new aero package. "This new wing creates some complex issues for those effected by the rule change," continued Lewis. "We will have far less downforce at the rear and need to understand how that impacts the entire car. We may well face the need for dramatic adjustments to the front end geometry and aero considerations which will add new challenges, not yet identified. But it is what it is and we will be as ready as possible for the season opener." Bryan Willman and Tony Burgess will handle the testing responsibilities at Road Atlanta and will be joined by Autocon veteran Chris McMurry for their challenge at the Sebring season debut. Stay tuned for updates as Autocon begins the 2009 ALMS season. |
