Le Mans, France --- The sporting directors of arguably the greatest motor racing event in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, announced today its initial invitations to this June’s ultimate sports car endurance race beginning with a June 1 official test day. Autocon was among just six P1 class cars/teams to receive an invitation, and has plans to accept. In total, 27 of the 55 births were announced by the ACO, the others in the P1 class going to Audi (two cars), Puegeot (2 cars) and Pescaloro. This will be the first trip to Le Mans for the Autocon, although two of its drivers, Bryan Willman and Chris McMurry, drove for Team Bucknum at Le Mans in 2003. Michael Lewis “From a personal standpoint, it’s the pinnacle of sports car racing. What more can you say. For a guy who grew up on racing, idolizing drivers and tracks, Le Mans is the ultimate cathedral of speed. It’s practically holy ground! I will cherish every moment of the experience. My only regret is not being able to share it with my father. His passion for machinery and racing is the reason I’m here today. It’s also gratifying from a team owner standpoint. After starting out club racing 25 years ago in a worn out Mazda, to compete at Le Mans is to perform at the highest level against the very best. It’s a credit to all the people over the years that have worked to make Autocon something meaningful. A small piece of all of them will be riding with us in June.” Chris McMurry “This has turned out great because this past summer Mike, Bryan and I had talked and decided we would make an effort to get an at-large invite to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and our excellent points finish in the ALMS resulted in an automatic invitation. The Creation/Judd is a nice 24-hour package because it is a very durable one. We finished every race this past season in the ALMS accept the last one.” Bryan Willman “We're extremely pleased and thankful the ACO has invited us. We will now redouble our focus on preparing for the great and unique event.”
