Generac 500 at Road America

No race course in North America instills pure road racing thrills as does Road America at Elkart Lake, Wisconsin. It is often compared to Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, maybe the most revered track in the world. The turns are famous: the Carrousel, Canada Corner, Hurry Downs, the Kink. It is all steeped in history and is all terrific. The ALMS will visit Road America August 17-20 for the Generac 500 and the Autocon/JeanRichard effort is looking forward to it in a big way.

"I love this track. It is a classic venue, unmatched anywhere in North America, maybe in the world," stated team owner/driver Mike Lewis. "I won my first Trans Am Series event here in 2003, so I have terrific feelings for the track. We should have an excellent opportunity here for a good result. There are more than a few sections of this track where our Lola should shine. All the work we have done to learn this car is paying off and I'd love to gain our third podium of the season at Road America."

Co-driver Chris McMurry is equally enthused. "I grew up not far from here in Whitefish Bay, a suburb of Milwaukee," said McMurry, who scored a win in the P2 class last season at the Road America in a Courage C65. "As a youth we used to watch the Indy Cars and Superbikes, featuring greats like Mario Andretti and Freddie Spencer, each summer. The Lola has excellent straight line speed, and loves high speed corners, and that’s a big part of what Road America is about. We could surprise this weekend.”

The Generac 500 at Road America, Round 7 of the 2006 American Le Mans Series, is scheduled for 2 p.m. CDT on Sunday, August 20. The race will be televised live by SPEED at 3 p.m. EDT, and MotorsTV will broadcast the race live to Europe from 9 p.m. to midnight CET. American Le Mans Radio and IMSA Live Timing & Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com.
