Coming off a terrific podium finish at Lime Rock Park, the Autocon Motorsports #12 JeanRichard Lola EX 257 AER powered ALMS P1 will carry even more momentum into round five of the 2006 Championship at the brand new Miller Motorsports Park for the inaugural Utah Grand Prix. Here are some critical numbers representing Autocon. 1: The overall position held by Autocon #12 at Lime Rock Park one hour into event. 2: Position in P1 class at finish, also the second consecutive podium for Autocon. 3: Position of drivers Mike Lewis and Chris McMurry in season Championship. 4.5: Length in miles of the new Miller Motorsports Park just outside Salt Lake City, the longest track on the ALMS schedule. 24: Number of turns at the brand new Utah track. 7/15/06: The date of the Utah Grand Prix Autocon is pumped and ready. The "crazier than ever" Bryan Willman will join team owner/driver Mike Lewis for the Utah event. Willman is more than ready for this new event. "Longer than Road America and over twice as many turns as Sears Point, what more could a driver wish for," exclaimed Willman. Lewis is familiar with the new track and is impressed. "Having run a brief test at Miller in June, we have some insight," stated Lewis. "First and foremost, its a beautifuly facility with garages and pit complex modeled after F1 tracks in Europe. The course is very long and although it necessarily turns back into itself a great deal, there are quite a few quick straights and plenty of passing opportunities. It was designed and is managed by one of the leading track designers in the world and it shows. Although fairly flat, its 24 turns exihibit almost every cornering variety you can think of. Its not a track you will pick up in a few minutes. As a driver, there are subtleties that at the end of the weekend will leave you thinking 'I've just about got this place wired'!" "As far as the Autocon team we are looking forward to building on the momentum of the last 2 races which found us on the podium. In particular, Lime Rock saw us lead overall an hour into the race and we had the pace to maintain the lead lap until we were crippled by contact with a lapped car. We look forward to moving the setup of the car further forward in Utah. Having spent the first few races learning the car and chasing a few problems we are now able to focus on maximizing its performance." The Grand Prix of Utah is set for 6 p.m. MDT on Saturday, July 15 at the new Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City. CBS will broadcast the race from 2 to 4 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 16. MotorsTV will broadcast the race in Europe from 6:30 to 9:30 CET on Sunday, July 16. American Le Mans Radio will provide live coverage on americanlemans.com, which also will feature IMSA Live Timing & Scoring. |
